Thirty projects selected through four calls for proposals support initiatives targeted on indigenous peoples and sociobiodiversity chains. COPAÍBAS also supports 21 protected areas. Six online meetings on climate change with public lawyers and civil society were held.

Amazon Mangroves, the program’s first public call for proposals, is launched. It will allocate R$ 44.4 million to up to nine selected ecological restoration initiatives in mangroves and restingas [coastal forests] along the Brazilian coast.

The Regional Program for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation and Fire in the Legal Amazon is developed, approved by the 9 member states, and which includes a 15% increase in the budget of each state for combating deforestation and fire.

2022 Results

At the Climate COP27, in Egypt, a USD 3.8 million-support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to quilombola projects in Pará was announced. FAO also mobilized R$ 11 million from legal obligations and donations for conservation projects in the state.

In the fifth edition, 30 proposals were selected among the almost 300 received. Since 2018, 164 fellows have had field research supported by the program, a joint initiative with the Instituto humanize that allocates R$ 1 million to projects every year.
